The Clyde River is full of history and fame. In the 1840’s hardwood timber was collected for the expansion of the young colony, and used as railway sleepers and for the building of wharves. By 1883 there were 13 timber mills in production in the area, now there are none.
Today, the Clyde River is famous for the quality of its oysters there exceptionally high quality resulting from the pristine waters from where they have grown. They are a great delicacy and people travel from all over to enjoy a dozen or two of the best in the world.
